Rocking it Glam

Hey Pastristas! Style Blog is back-to-back this week with some back to school palette building! I am GLOWING from Wednesday’s live tweet session that happily ran over schedule. I love answering Pastry Lovers’ style questions, so keep ‘em coming!

Since my last post, I’ve gained some insight as to how Pastry Girls’ school dress codes effect the way they pair their Pastry sneakers with other items in their wardrobe. It’s clear that Pastry Girls have THE most resilient attitude about their dress codes by letting a little (Pastry) swag shine through. Today, I’m going to build a totally school/work/church/coffee talk appropriate outfit based on Pastry’s Keep it Glam trend.

True to its name, the Paris Lover shoe is slim, sleek, and chic, and can be combined to make a truly sophisticated outfit. I love the detailing on the flank of the sneaker that reveals a tiny bit of silver sequin. The Paris Lover shows off just enough to get you going!

Thus, my ideal palette for a totally glam outfit is mature but fun with a spot of deep pink.

My intention is to create an outfit to complement the inner sophistication of these Pastry kicks, while working with the Pastry girl’s eclectic schedule. So here’s my Keep it Glam ensemble: Harem pants help elongate the leg when wearing comfy high tops. The zebra print creates some visual texture but is small enough to not distract the eye. A structured military jacket brings some formality to the look, and the floral scarf keeps it all feminine. Let’s not forget the ultracool VERAMEAT Vampire Love ring (oh, to wear one’s fangs on one’s finger!). And to round it off, these gorgeous Chevron Stretch Bracelets, proving that mixing metals can be quite beautiful.

An Alternative Vision of School Spirit

Hey Pastristas! I’m back-to-back this week with back to school palette building!

In my last post, we created a palette and outfit based on Pastry’s Turn the Lights Up trend. Today, we’re going to switch gears and look at the School Spirit trend.

Erase the stereotype of pom poms, high kicks, and feathery pens: Pastry’s School Spirit “girl” is so much more than that. My inspo look for the day is (drum roll please)… ME. My go-to look in high school was a delicious concoction of a 1950′s school girl meets 1980′s punk. Think: pleated skirts with ripped up tights, cat eye glasses, grandma sweaters and combat boots. I was shuttled back to the “best days of my life” (or so they say) when I saw Pastry’s latest runway show:

The Pastry people really got it down this season. An Ooh! La! La! Couture flouncy lace dress combined with the Sire Hi Varsity sneaker is the image perfected of a girl in a prom dress, wearing her boyfriend’s varsity jacket. Just like Madonna circa 1985, this outfit is feminine, functional, and punk to the core.

Enough of the poetics, let’s get to work!

The Pink and Gray Sire Hi Varsity sneaker is muse of the day, and thus my palette is simple: black, white, gray, and hot pink (to match my Varsity sneaks). I love Ohh! La! La! Couture’s WOW Zebra Dress dressed down with Pastry’s, pretty lace socks, and some rad floral pom pom hair accessories. Asos Flower Stud Earrings reinforce the frilly look. To create a polished but fun finishing note, use a neutral nail polish, like Essie’s Case Study, and then with a white out pen and decorate with dots and dashes (just be sure not to get it on your skin!). To dress it up further: pile on necklaces and bangles; don’t worry about matching! Just make it you!

REBEL Chic Decoded

Greetings, Pastristas! My name is Alli, freshman blogger for your favorite brand of sneakers.

Full disclosure: I am a fashion realist. The best thing about realists is that we plan ahead (like squirrels). Whenever something gives me butterflies, I know that’s exactly when I need to arm myself with calendar, sketchbook, pencils, or whatever works. And nothing is more emotionally charged than the first day of school.

The. First. Day. Of. School.

For better or for worse, the first day of school is a micro runway show. That’s why I’m here to help you plan the perfect look to pair with your favorite Pastry Kicks. In this article, we’ll be looking at the Rebel Chic trend.

GETTING STARTED

Unless you have an all-inclusive closet organizer like Cher’s in Clueless, you’re going to need a few simple tools available in 2011:

- Sketchbook and color pencils – OR -

- Old magazines, sketchbook, scissors and tape – OR -

- Microsoft paint, Sumo Paint or similar – OR -

- A fashion tool like Polyvore

These tools will help you to begin channeling the colors of your closet into an organized presentation.

REBEL CHIC

One of the top Pastry trends for this Fall is Rebel Chic — sweet and sour; punk but polite; loud, proud and pretty.

We’re going to start off by matching the Antique Bronze Glam Gang shoe. I love this shoe because it combines bling with rich autumn colors: bronze is soft enough to wear between seasons, but still looks t-u-f-f.

Glam Gang - Antique Bronze

She might be known for that disastrous swan dress, but Bjork’s style is inspirational if only for one thing: she knows how to combine fabrics (Vinyl and Velcro? Silk and Denim? Why not!). Pastry’s Antique Bronze Glam Gang shoe is awesome because it embraces the same contradictions: the shimmery bronze material is neutral but glamorous, and the metal studs throw in some rock attitude. Just like you, this shoe is seriously complex.

Let’s layout our ideal color palette!

Here’s my palette: Bronze, gold, gray, navy blue and orange. My first step was to layout the staple colors: bronze and blue. The secondary colors (gold and gray) are relatively neutral and lie within the bronze to blue spectrum.  I designed this palette to be fairly monotone in order to let my statement pieces sing. As for my accent color, let’s go hard with a splash of orange.

Next step: matching pieces. Since we’re basing this outfit off of the Bronze Glam Gang shoe, I’m going to build the outfit from the bottom up… literally. Dark blue skinny jeans are a no-brainer for this look, as they’re simple and rooted in punk style. Next, I’d like to pair a tribal print top with a loose fitting cut. I found this hip top on Thread Sence (for school, you’ll have to wear a simple camisole underneath to cover up).

This fall is all about pairing crazy prints, so I threw in a floral scarf from Top Shop. Because the scarf and blouse prints feature neutral colors, this look is sassy but not chaotic.

And why not throw a cool orange backpack (by sustainably minded Baggu) into the mix?

To round off the look: a pair of pyramid stud earrings, like Fred Flare’s Gold Pyramid Earrings, and serious gold belt to match.

The true finishing touch to your official Pastry back to school outfit? An amazing attitude!
