An Alternative Vision of School Spirit

Hey Pastristas! I’m back-to-back this week with back to school palette building!

In my last post, we created a palette and outfit based on Pastry’s Turn the Lights Up trend. Today, we’re going to switch gears and look at the School Spirit trend.

Erase the stereotype of pom poms, high kicks, and feathery pens: Pastry’s School Spirit “girl” is so much more than that. My inspo look for the day is (drum roll please)… ME. My go-to look in high school was a delicious concoction of a 1950′s school girl meets 1980′s punk. Think: pleated skirts with ripped up tights, cat eye glasses, grandma sweaters and combat boots. I was shuttled back to the “best days of my life” (or so they say) when I saw Pastry’s latest runway show:

The Pastry people really got it down this season. An Ooh! La! La! Couture flouncy lace dress combined with the Sire Hi Varsity sneaker is the image perfected of a girl in a prom dress, wearing her boyfriend’s varsity jacket. Just like Madonna circa 1985, this outfit is feminine, functional, and punk to the core.

Enough of the poetics, let’s get to work!

The Pink and Gray Sire Hi Varsity sneaker is muse of the day, and thus my palette is simple: black, white, gray, and hot pink (to match my Varsity sneaks). I love Ohh! La! La! Couture’s WOW Zebra Dress dressed down with Pastry’s, pretty lace socks, and some rad floral pom pom hair accessories. Asos Flower Stud Earrings reinforce the frilly look. To create a polished but fun finishing note, use a neutral nail polish, like Essie’s Case Study, and then with a white out pen and decorate with dots and dashes (just be sure not to get it on your skin!). To dress it up further: pile on necklaces and bangles; don’t worry about matching! Just make it you!

Laurieann Gibson’s Commercial Choreography

Laurieann Gibson is already a world-famous choreographer and style maker. Always prepared to create the coolest new steps in her fresh Pastry line, she’s the queen of dance for good reason. Recently, she showed just how versatile she is when she organized in a Sears commercial 10 remaining contestants on the current season of her breakout reality competition, Born to Dance.

Declaring that her very first job was on the set of a commercial, Laurieann stressed how important it is for every savvy dancer to know how to perform in a group. Whether it’s a vacuum cleaner or a fabulous pair of Pastry Krump Its High Tops (Laurieann’s favorite), a poised dance professional needs to know how to sell it!

Cody’s Favorite Cause

Three thousand screaming fans arrived at the Somerset Mall in Troy, Michigan, recently, but they weren’t just holding “We Heart Cody Simpson” signs because they adore the 14-year-old teen heart throb from Australia. They weren’t on hand just to hear the cutie pie blonde belt out his latest single or scope out which amazing styles from Pastry Shoes he’d be wearing.

In fact, each person who attended the free show was given a card with derogatory words like “dork” or “nerd” and asked to simultaneously tear it up along with Cody on stage. Simpson was promoting his favorite cause, Defeat the Label, which aims to end bullying among tweens and teens.

Looking as cute as ever in a gray hoodie and fresh new kicks, Cody was accompanied by Jessica Jarrell and Alli Simpson, who also support the anti-bullying movement. To learn more about Defeat the Label, and to check out which Pastry Shoes Cody really loves, head over to www.lovepastry.com!

Jessica Jarrell ? Shoe Thief?

Style setter Jessica Jarrell is at it again, sneaking away with so many fabulous sneakers from Pastry Shoes and Pastry that we might have to call the fashion police!

Fortunately, Jess’s act of thievery was all for the cameras. She was backstage at the Pastry showroom, looking as glamorous as ever for a Pastry photo shoot. The “Key to My Heart” crooner turned up her charm and pretended to steal away with a few pairs of her favorite fashionable kicks!

Dressed down in a white tank and dark skinny jeans, Jess looked effortlessly beautiful. Proving once and for all that she’s on top of the fashion world, Jess shows us that less can be more when it comes to hair and makeup. To scope out her style, don’t forget to check out www.lovepastry.com!

Mz. Bratt?s Amazing Performance Look

It’s no secret that Mz. Bratt is one of the most stylish singers in the business. After all, she already loves Pastry Shoes and Pastry! But recently, we caught the rapper at a performance looking more amazing than ever!

Mz. Bratt covered Cher Lloyd’s “Superhero” on her popular YouTube channel, and we’ve never seen anyone look so great while rocking laid-back casual clothes and makeup! In fact, Mz. Bratt inspires us to try an equally fresh look. She reminds us that when it comes to style, a naturally pretty hair and makeup look is sometimes the best.

If you’re excited to get your hands on a similar style, don’t forget to visit www.lovepastry.com and stock up on all Mz. Bratt’s favorites accessories!

Turn Up the Lights, Put on the Shades, etc.

Hey Pastristas! I hope you’ve been busy sketching, painting, or collaging away, because I’m back for another round of optical bootcamp that’s guaranteed to get you an A+++++ in art class (and maybe science, too).

In my last post, I built a palette and outfit based on Pastry’s awesome Rebel Chic trend. Thanks to the suggestion of a commenter, I’m going to look at the Turn Up the Lights trend, and build an outfit based on the Neon Lime Sire High Top!

So, you’re thinking it can’t get anymore hyph than neon lime green Pastry kicks? Do you think Kanye West just gave up after a 35 minute ballerina and supermodel alien-infused operatic nightmare? No, he went and got icey grills. This, my dear Pastristas, is this lesson of the decade: hyph is not hyph ’til you do it again (and again and again…) [check out the glut of work of my friends DEARRAINDROP. You'll quickly see what I mean.]

In the spirit of seizure inducing music videos, I give you visual concept du jour: the moiré pattern.

A Moiré pattern is a type of visual interference that’s created when two grids are layered on top of one another. This can happen in an analog manner (a lot of fine silk produces this effect), or digitally (try shooting video of a friend wearing a tight check or stripe pattern. Yikes!). The effect ranges from headachey-in-a-good-way, or if you’re optically sensitive, thoroughly nauseating. When applied to your wardrobe, this concept can produce some headtrippy and perfectly au courant results.

But first, our color palette, which we’re going to keep linear and graphic with classic green-pink and black-white combos. And gold star stickers because they match everything in school, right?

What does your palette look like? Comment below!

If this outfit had a spirit animal, it would definitely be Ye’s collegiate bad boy look. And reasonably so, my dears! This is a challenging outfit, and we must be careful to control our neon-moiré chaos. With that in mind, let’s layer some opposing horizontal stripes, but sweeten the look with an oversized Madewell cardigan, and some saccharin knee-high socks. Your accessories can be kept simple, but should be fun and work with your palette of choice.

The finishing touch: vintage neon lime shield shades, and the aforementioned gold star stickers for sticking everywhere.

Counter-clockwise from top-left: Madewell’s Striped Ferry cardigan, Vintage Sun Shields, H&M dress, Fred Flare Toothy Earrings, Nordstrom knee-high socks, Girl Props Enameled Keyboard necklace, Pastry’s Neon Lime Sires, Gold Star Stickers (available at any school supply or drugstore).

Mz. Bratt Talks Industry Underestimation

Who would have every thought that the gorgeous, stylish and talented Mz. Bratt was ever underestimated in the music industry? We adore her and her funky style, so we can’t imagine anyone not feeling the same way!

But that’s exactly what the singer recently told Urbanworld. Evidently, she wasn’t taken seriously in the beginning of her singing career and had to really fight for her success. She said, “I just have to keep pushing…”

Even though it wasn’t easy for her to make it in the music industry, we’re thrilled she did, and that she’s able to bring us the best in fashion and fabulousness! To score her confident style, don’t forget to check out www.lovepastry.com to see what Mz. Bratt’s loving lately!

Could Jessica Jarrell be the New Selena Gomez?

Jessica Jarrell is only 14, but she’s already proven that she has major fashion and style cred. In fact, we think her star power and eye for style already rival Selena’s! Now that she’s making the rounds with friend Cody Simpson and his sister Alli, Jessica is primed for a pop music takeover, and she’s reinventing funky fashion along the way!

After her awesome performance at the Defeat the Label concert in Michigan on August 28, we’re convinced that everyone will be dressing just like Jessica this year. For her favorite styles from Pastry Shoes and Pastry, check out www.lovepastry.com.

Defeat the Label

Jessica has the beauty, the talent, and certainly the style to be the next biggest pop star. Selena better up her game if she wants to keep up with this fashionista!

Alli Simpson at the Magic Industry Clothing Convention

We already knew that blonde beauty Alli Simpson was an up-and-coming style maker. But now that we’ve spotted her scoping out the hottest trends at the Pastry Shoes and Pastry booth at the annual Magic Industry Clothing Convention, we’re totally convinced she has her finger right on the fashion pulse!

Alli smiled for photographers on August 22 in front of a wall of amazing Pastry Shoes, and we’re already planning our fall shopping sprees! To see the latest looks, don’t forget to stop by www.lovepastry.com and stock up on the newest styles.

We loved Alli’s hair at the event, too, with soft, natural waves. We think a similar style will be our go-to look this season. Add a trendy pair of feather earrings for a star-inspired finishing touch on any ensemble!

Angela Simmons? Natural Beauty

It’s no secret that style star and longtime Pastry Shoes and Pastry fan Angela Simmons is naturally gorgeous. She’s one who always encourages her fans to be confident in their own skin.

Recently, she tweeted a photo of her natural hair without any extensions or weave. She makes us jealous of her gorgeous curls! We wish every girl will one day have the confidence to post such natural, carefree photos. And we think Angela is a great confidence booster!

Donning only casual black leggings and a loose-fitting gray t-shirt, we think Angela is proving that less is more when it comes to beauty, and casual is often best when it comes to fashion! That’s why you should check out www.lovepastry.com to discover her latest shoe obsessions!
